The breakdown

  • Island Twists
  • Curly Ends
  • Middle Part

How it is done

  1. 10:28Use long braiding hair (72 inches in 1B) plus a pack of curly human hair for the curls.
  2. 20:56Part in a brick-layer pattern and start each one like a knotless braid, using shine and jam or a locking gel.
  3. 31:25Add a curly piece between your index finger and thumb as you braid, leaving the curl hanging out. Add a good length so it doesn't slide out.
  4. 41:55Switch to a twist, twisting each strand on its own while you wrap them together. It isn't a regular two-strand twist.
  5. 53:20Lay more curly pieces flat along the twist as you go. About four or five per twist gives full curls.
  6. 64:19At the end, add one more curly piece, wrap it around and knot it three or four times to seal.
  7. 76:16Seal the ends with a steamer rather than hot water, so the human-hair curls aren't damaged.
  8. 87:14Snip away any blunt braiding-hair ends sticking out of the twists, without cutting your own hair.
