The breakdown

  • Jumbo Braids
  • Parting Grid
  • Braid Lengths

How it is done

  1. 10:30Start on freshly washed hair. Use a thin rat-tail comb to part three sections: two in front with a middle part and one large section in back.
  2. 21:03Apply a leave-in conditioner to each section from roots to tips.
  3. 31:31Apply a hair oil to the hair and scalp and massage it in so the scalp does not get dry under the style.
  4. 43:01In the back section, part a clean horizontal row with the rat-tail comb, making it smaller if needed for the braid size you want.
  5. 53:28Brush a little edge control onto the roots for sleek parts, then divide the row into individual braid sections.
  6. 63:57Secure each section at the root with two small rubber bands coated in a little oil so they do not snap or pull too tight.
  7. 74:24Comb a moisturizing styling butter through the section, then braid it straight down, snugly.
  8. 85:24At the ends, smooth on a little edge control instead of twirling them, for a sleek box-braid finish.
  9. 96:19Repeat row by row. Redo any part that is not clean, using your fingers as guides in the back.
  10. 109:12In thicker sections, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle and spread the product without friction.
