The breakdown

  • Long Twists
  • Side Part
  • Twist Lengths

How it is done

  1. 10:27Saturate the section with a shine-and-hold gel and comb it through to the root so it looks sleek.
  2. 20:57Split the natural hair into two pieces and twist each one clockwise.
  3. 30:57Place the braiding hair in the middle, between the two natural pieces.
  4. 41:26Twist each side separately, holding one with the ring and middle fingers while twisting the other.
  5. 51:53Twist the two sides over each other, right over left, holding tight at the root so the twist does not loosen.
  6. 62:21Keep twisting each side and then the two together as you go down, adding gel and small pieces of hair as needed.
  7. 73:20Taper the twist from thicker to thinner and check the length as you go. Do not add too much hair, since the twist plumps up once released.
  8. 84:16To seal the end, pull one long, thin strand out to the side of the twist.
  9. 95:15Wrap that strand around the front and back of the twist and pull it through with two fingers to tie a knot.
  10. 107:09Saturate every section with gel before twisting, and add less hair where the natural hair is thick so all twists match.
