The breakdown

  • Faux Locs
  • Half-Up
  • Loc Length

How it is done

  1. 10:00Get pre-made faux locs in 14, 18 and 22 inch lengths.
  2. 20:32Part the hair into a front and back section with a clean middle part in front; finger-part the rest into rows.
  3. 30:32Start at the very back with the 22-inch locs, unraveling each loc a little so it is easier to wrap later.
  4. 40:59Split a section into three, place the loc on one piece and braid a few passes. Then split one piece into two and twist the rest of the way down.
  5. 51:54You can braid all the way down instead; twisting the ends makes takedown easier. Install every loc first, then wrap.
  6. 63:10For the layered look, switch to 18-inch locs after the back rows and use the 14-inch locs at the front.
  7. 74:25Unravel the loc and wrap it around the twist in the direction it naturally tightens, tightening as you go.
  8. 84:25When you reach the curly end, move it to your free hand and keep wrapping the loc around the twist.
  9. 95:43Pull gently on the hair at the top of each loc to fluff it out and add volume.
  10. 105:43Along thin edges, attach the loc to two of the three pieces instead of one to reduce tension.
