The breakdown

  • Half-Up Curly Ponytail
  • Laid Edges
  • Chest Length

How it is done

  1. 11:26Start on freshly washed hair with a wide-tooth comb, an edge brush, a hard bristle brush, a leave-in cream and a gel. Make a middle part.
  2. 21:57Use your fingers to part the half-up section, starting at the ears and angling toward the back until your fingers meet in the middle.
  3. 32:30Clip the top section out of the way. Detangle and moisturize the back with the wide-tooth comb and leave-in cream, re-wetting with water if it dries.
  4. 43:26Tie the back section with a hair tie, then detangle and moisturize the top section the same way.
  5. 54:30Apply gel only along the middle part and around the hairline to avoid flakes in the rest of the hair.
  6. 64:59Slick the hair back with the brush, starting at the middle part and working around the edges on each side.
  7. 75:28Wrap a hair tie around the section a couple of times to hold it in place while you smooth out bumps.
  8. 86:26Wrap the tie around fully, and on the last pass pull the hair only halfway through to make a loose bun with the curls out on top.
  9. 96:26Lay your edges with an edge brush and edge control, doing two big swoops plus the sideburns.
  10. 107:44Touch up flyaways with a little gel, then tie the hair down with a scarf for a few minutes to set.
