The breakdown

  • Natural Blowout
  • Volume
  • Stretched Ends

How it is done

  1. 10:00Start on wash day: saturate your hair and shampoo, massaging the scalp and letting the suds clean the lengths.
  2. 20:56Condition with enough product that you can finger-part easily.
  3. 30:56Part down the middle and work one side at a time, making six to ten ponytails: more ponytails stretch more and dry faster.
  4. 41:24Coat each section with conditioner and detangle with a brush from the ends up to the roots.
  5. 51:52Secure each section with a snag-free band (no metal ring).
  6. 62:49Rinse the conditioner out completely, then smooth about two pumps of oil onto each section.
  7. 73:16Plait each ponytail to the ends so the roots dry flat and the lengths stretch.
  8. 83:16Let it air-dry overnight, uncovered so it dries faster.
  9. 93:52Take the bands and plaits down, smooth on a little oil and brush through each section to remove the crinkles.
  10. 104:20You're left with a big blown-out look and no heat damage, ready to wear out or style.
