  • Short Cut

How it is done

  1. 10:56Scoop bleach powder into your bowl. She eyeballs it at about three scoops.
  2. 21:24Mix the bleach, and if it's too loose, add more powder until it holds together.
  3. 31:54Add two to three pumps of leave-in conditioner to help strengthen your hair while the bleach sits.
  4. 42:24Stop mixing when it's neither too thick nor too watery. Put on gloves, because bleach will burn, and coat your edges and skin with petroleum jelly.
  5. 53:30Apply the bleach, then cover your head with plastic caps. She uses two.
  6. 64:00After about an hour, rinse out. Because very dark hair takes long to lift, she bleaches in rounds instead of leaving it on so long that the hair breaks off. Then she reapplies.
  7. 74:35Leave the second round on for about an hour to an hour and a half to lift out the orange. If it's still yellow, or your scalp is getting irritated, rinse and do one more round.
  8. 85:03Stop once your hair is about as white as it will get.
  9. 95:32Work a styling product through your freshly bleached hair.
  10. 106:01Part your hair with a rat-tail comb, very gently, because bleached hair is fragile, and comb in some texture for dimension.
  11. 117:05Use a small brush on the front to smooth and control the short pieces.
  12. 127:35Lay your edges with edge control, using only a little.
