The breakdown

  • Curly Volume

  • Shoulder Length

How it is done

  1. 10:29Start with clean hair and work a leave-in conditioner through it.
  2. 20:56Keep a spray bottle of water or curl-refreshing spray nearby, then part out the longest hair on top.
  3. 31:25Section the sides away from the back and begin in the back while your hair is still damp, almost dry.
  4. 41:54Finger coil the shorter pieces at the nape and around the temples.
  5. 51:54On the longer sections, spray until the hair is soaking wet, then apply styling gel from root to end.
  6. 62:30Brush through each section with a detangling brush to separate the strands. Don't use it to bump the ends.
  7. 72:58Take one small strand at a time and rub it between your thumb and index finger from root to end to clump and smooth the curl. If a strand is too thick, split it smaller first.
  8. 83:54Finish the whole head, then leave your curls alone. Don't touch them again until they're completely dry.
  9. 94:24Bend over so your hair hangs toward the floor and diffuse with a hand dryer for about 20 minutes so it dries standing up. Don't pick the roots.
  10. 104:53Mist your curls with a spray oil to soften any crunch and add shine.
