The breakdown

  • Bantu Knots
  • Parted Sections
  • Nape Knots

How it is done

  1. 11:25Apply leave-in conditioner to freshly washed hair, split it into two large sections, and detangle thoroughly.
  2. 21:54Part small sections with a rat tail comb, in random puzzle-like lines or a regular grid, using a gel to keep each part clean.
  3. 32:24Moisturize each section with a hair moisturizer, then seal it with a butter or sealant.
  4. 42:54Apply edge control at the base and brush it with a toothbrush so the hair lies flat with minimal flyaways.
  5. 53:23Oil a small rubber band, secure it at the base of the section, then twist the hair all the way down to the ends.
  6. 63:53Repeat the parting, moisturizing, banding, and twisting on every section until the whole head is done.
  7. 75:54Hold a twist at the base and wrap it around that anchor, tucking each wrap under the one before to form a knot.
  8. 86:49Keep wrapping to the end and secure each knot with a rubber band if the style needs to last.
  9. 97:47Finish by oiling the scalp with a growth oil.
